About
Professor Hunt Fueled by curiosity and inspired by the unexpected, Katie is an influential leader in the design of meaningful, place-based, human-centric architecture and is committed to the education of future designers. Her interconnected roles as architect, educator, and researcher are evidence of her ripple effect across her community.
Katie wholeheartedly believes that everyone deserves good design. With degrees in both architecture and textile design, she has a deep understanding of how the human body perceives materials, inhabits space, and informs design. Her inquisitiveness, problem-solving skills, and collaborative spirit have made her an asset to project teams and clients alike.
Katie’s research centers around adaptive reuse and the mass timber. In practice, she relishes the opportunity to revive and re-imagine existing structures and believes that often, the most sustainable thing to do is to work with what you have. Her academic research involves innovations in mass timber wood products and advancing the local fabrication of CLT. By leveraging the collective intellect of fellow researchers as well as her relationship with local industry leaders in architecture and construction, she hopes to see more mass timber buildings in Memphis very soon.
