Prerequisite: BIOL 1120/1121 or permission of instructor

• Students will focus on molecular and morphological approaches to understand mycological concepts.

• Course Objectives:

  • To understand major groups of fungi including distinguishing characteristics, evolutionary patterns, and functional roles.

  • To understand interactions between fungi and the environment including nutritional roles such as pathogens, symbioses, and decomposers.

  • To understand fungi’s unique reproduction strategies including life-cycles of major groups of fungi.

  • To understand the many ways that fungi have and can be used for industrial purposes including manufacturing and biotechnology.
